We are proud to present the following additions to Sorte Firkant Festival 2019
Spielbergs, Olden Yolk, Glume and Rýk
When indie rockers, Spielbergs, brought their debut single We Are All Going To Die to the world in February this year, their impact was immediate. It was a rallying cry, an urgent and insistent examination of mortality that instantly exploded through the rafters and shot for the sky. It was a track that united rock and indie fans and writers the world over, topping the Hype Machine as most blogged about band in the world, making Lamacq’s Livener on BBC 6 Music and cementing the band as ones to keep a very close eye on going forward. We are very proud to present this act at SF19, from whom we expect a lot from, in the future.
Olden Yolk (US)
Olden Yolk is the project led by songwriters Shane Butler and Caity Shaffer. Their 2018 self-titled LP enveloped listeners in a sound uniquely of-the-moment yet simultaneously time-tested, oscillating between art rock tendencies and delicate, yet angular ballads. Following the release of a split-record with Weyes Blood in 2014, the duo released their first full-length LP on Trouble in Mind in 2018. The record grew from a poetry collaboration Shaffer and Butler started in 2016, in which they would write a poem to each other each day. Olden yolk recently put out their critically acclaimed sophomore record, Living Theatre, and we are more than excited to welcome this act to this year's lineup.
Liva and Mikki are the faces behind the Copenhagen-based shoegaze duo, Glume. Lyrically, the band wavers back and forth between themes of social consciousness and the gloomy sides of mentality, through which they intend to draw you into their world of shady colors, brutal honesty and emotional analogies. Having only released a couple singles, Glume have already gained notoriety from several music blogs, and played various upcoming festivals throughout Denmark. We look forward to introduce you to this new, but hugely talented act at SF19.
Rýk consists four members, who hail from the underground circles of Aalborg. The music has its roots in post punk, and reaches towards the noisy shoegaze of the 90s. The fusion of these two genres is achieved by means of the band’s uncompromising and ambitious songwriting - with reference to the vitals of rock, Rýk dives their sound from the bright surface, into a bottomless pit of ambience and uncontrollable blur and noise. Expect chaos, bliss and savagery when Rýk is playing this years festival.
